Missing file: /usr/lib/apt/methods/ppa

whenever I run 

apt-get update

I’m getting the following message:

E: The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/ppa could not be found.

Never used to have this issue. Is there an easy fix for this. Is there a command I can run to download it or could I copy the ppa file over using ftp if someone else sends me theres?

Perhaps a soft reset or a reboot might correct this behavior if it’s something small.
