Mismatch between physical drive and dashboard/ipad/computer folders

Hello everybody!

Now that my main issue is solved thanks to this community (Lin_Admin not to mention a name)…

http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-My-Cloud/Admin-user-lost-access-to-a-folder/m-p/674359#M6825

I have a clean  “/DataVolume/share/”  directory.

However I still have

  • 3 broken links appearing in \WDMYCLOUD : /weddingguest  /weddingguest2  /weddingphotos

  • 1 broken link appearing in my Ipad : /weddingguest

  • 1 broken link appearing in the dashboard

The physical directory they once refered to does not exist anymore that is for sure.

Is there a simple way to cleanup this mess?

Manual remove? automatic scan of truely existing folders? maintenance tool? scandisk?

Thank you.

If they’re still in the various configurations, and they are indeed EMPTY, I would recommend that you try to delete them from the User Interface on the web UI.

If they’re not there in the UI, add them back in exactly as they were previously spelled, and then delete them again.

Using your tip I have successfuly removed broken links visible from dashboard and Ipad. However I still have broken links in the network drive \WDMYCLOUD : /weddingphotos and /weddingguest2

I tried to create new folders with the same name in /DataVolume/shares, I got this error message :

  • Échec de la fonction du dossier partagé. (400099)

which is the same error I got when all these troubles have started. Unfortunately I am the only guy who ever got this error code on this forum… lucky me!

So after some reading I understood that under linux systems the file sharing with Windows networks is done with the tool  SAMBA. Using the command " testparm" I got the confirmation that this tool is related with my broken links…

WDMyCloud:/etc/samba# testparm
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384)

[weedingphotos]
path = /shares/weddingguest
valid users = toto
write list = toto
map readonly = no

[weddingguest2]

map readonly = no

Now here is the solution to solve this problem:

connect to ssh (login=root / password=welc0me)

testparm

cd /etc/samba

cp overall_share overall_share.save2014.02.05

vi overall_share

[ESC]

on the lines that should obviously be deleted including ## BEGIN ## and ## END ##

to save and quit

testparm to confirm that unwanted sections have disapeared

under windows : \WDMYCLOUD to confirm that broken links have disapeared

under dashboard : create a new folder and delete this new folder to confirm UI is not damaged

congratulations the product waranty is broken but the probem has disapeared!

Yeah, problems are solved one step at a time.  Good job!

Let me make a final suggestion.   Get all your important data onto a backup.

Then do a Quick Factory Restore.

That should all the other possible configuration gremlins

Then put your data back on the drive (but keep your backup of course!)
