MBWE II 2TB - White Light - Can't View Data in Shares

Hey everyone.

First I’d like to say that I generally love Western Digital and their products. They’ve been very good to me over the years and I’ve always recommended their products to others.

This device, the My Book World Edition II, however, is changing how I view this company and how I will recommend Western Digital products in the future. When it comes to this device I have nothing nice to say about it. I’ve had so many issues with it, it’s insane.

Issues like terribly slow transfer speeds, and how the device constantly freezes and requires a reboot aside, I’m now having another issue; I’m not able to open and browse my files/shares. When I try to access the share on my Windows 7 machines I get the following error: Windows can not access: \DeviceName\ShareName. The only share folder that opens up is the “Configuration” folder. Not even the Public share is opening.

Here is a log of the machine re-booting from the control panel, and when I try to access a share:

Can someone more experienced please take a look through the error log and see if you know what the problem is?

In the control panel’s disk manager, it says that both drives are in “good” status. In the volumes & RAID management section however, it says the striped volume’s usage and size are “unknown”, and the status of the volume is “failed to mount this volume!”. Does this mean I’ve lost my data and I have to reformat the drives and recreate the volume?

I’ve had this device for just under 30 days now, it can not be returned.

I’m incredibly disappointed in the performance of this product. I’m incredibly disappointed that a company such as Western Digital would release it to the wild in it’s obviously terrible buggy state. I’m incredibly disappointed how Western Digital has managed the firmware (the version that’s installed on my device isn’t even on the site for download, or to read the documentation). I’m incredibly disappointed how Western Digital has not officially announced that they know about these issues, and if a new version of the firmware is in development, and if so, how long from now until we can expect it’s release.

Perhaps I’ve ranted to much in my request for help. If I have, I’m sorry, I’m just so sick of this bullcrap. When I pay $300 for a device I expect to be able to use it as advertised, especially without having to open a SSH prompt and start hacking around in the device.

Any help, or your opinion on the matter, would be very much appreciated.

I wish I could help

then I could fix mine as well

I must admit; it’s made a very sexy paperweight.
