MBW White Light apparently bricked...?

Hi, my MBW 1TB White Light stopped working this morning. It’s just sitting there with the bottom LED on (solid, not dimmed or flashing). It’s not appearing as an attached device any more on my router and can’t be detected by WD Discovery or by navigating through a browser.

It has ceased to function. It is an ex MBW from what I can see.

The disk spins up and I can hear it “operating” inside the enclosure. Like I say, it was fine yesterday, dead today.

After some research and from reading this post ( http://community.wdc.com/t5/My-Book-World-Edition/1TB-WD-World-Edition-white-light-bricked-after-firmware-upgrade/td-p/160658) it seems like the bottom light only on indicates that it’s “Powering Up”. So I think that it’s stuck in a “Powering Up” state.

Probably means that the Power Supply is buggered(?). Can somebody please help? I don’t want to have to spend another $200 or more on a new unit!!!

Thanks…

Is it a single drive unit?  Have you tried connecting the power adapter to the wall directly to make sure it’s getting enough power to spin the drives completely up.  You could also try getting another power adapter just in case that one is shot.

Hi - thanks. Yes, it’s the single 1TB unit and I did try a few other power connections. Some span the disk up some didn’t. The supplied power cable does spin the disk, but it’s just sitting there with the lonely bottom LED dimly glowing and nothing else.

Any ideas from anyone gratefully accepted. I would like to get the data off the disk, but that’s not critical as it’s mostly backed up. Also it’s still under warranty, so at least when I’ve run out of ideas I can just send it back.

Cheers,

Greg

Have tried holding the power off ont he back of the unit  so it shuts down as it might of lock up. All the best M

Hi - thanks but the power off on the back has never worked. Always just unplugged it.

You have to hold the button for a few seconds for it to switch off. M

Is 30 seconds long enough…? No, seriously, it’s never worked, but I did try. I also tried the system reset button which has worked previously, but this time it’s different as the system doesn’t seem to be booting up at all.

I’m thinking of boxing it up and sending off for a warranty replacement.

Cheers…

I would RMA it.
