I’m just sharing my experience with a My Book Live on which the NIC failed to work anymore meaning totally no access to the drive and all my critical data.
After much struggling I gave up and removed the disk from the unit and connected it to my PC with a USB to SATA converter.
I could see the disk now as a USB drive, but Windows asked to format it. Obviously I didn’t.
I downloaded and installed Access to Ext 2/3/4, HFS and ReiserFS from Windows | DiskInternals
This enables a windows machine to read Linux disks I just had to locate my data, and I could then “save” my files and folders to another disk in my PC.
