MBL 1TB, getting 80kb/s, WDTV live can't see the network share

I have had this device for months and it’s had a slow transfer rate (80-100kb/s) since I got it, making it barely usable.  I am using it via wireless, but the speed wasn’t much better when I connected my PC directly to the router.  I’m not really sure what I could adjust to improve the speed.  Most of the comments I’ve read through are people complaining about speed that are much faster than I’m even seeing…  My PC is running Windows 7 64 bit.  My wireless router is only G, but that’s plenty fast for me when it’s working properly.

My other issue is with using the MBL with my WDTV live.  The WDTV can see the MBL just fine through the media server, but it doesn’t see network shares that I’ve setup to require a password.  I don’t want all my media to be public.

Thanks for any advice to solve these two issues!

If the “:CU” rule is set on a location then adding “+group” access only

adds users who have that group set as their default in /etc/passwd.

Users which are added to groups in /etc/group are not included since this

behavior requires the U(nix) allow flags to be active - “www-data” user access

to /share is added explicitly.

I tried with and without twonky/itunes enabled and it made no difference in speed.  Ironically, I did try mounting the drive through WD2go and transferring and it was much faster (according to the window that popped up) but it seems to get stuck around 80% through a file transfer.  Maybe it would have completed, but I waited a couple minutes for a 3 meg file…
