What is the maximum bit rate (Mbps) this device can support ?
If we consider that a ripped blu-ray movie is about 48 Mbps max, will it be able to support it (wireless connection) ?

That is a bit high. You can find more information in the link below, page 205:

From the manual, it should support 40 Mbps. I got the 48Mbps from MediaInfo.
The fact is, as soon as I want to play a blu-ray ripped movie, the video is stuttering and the sound is off after about 1 minute of movie. Whatever is the media server, I always got the same problem !
Don’t know how to solve that and WD c.s. doesn’t help much.
Hi,
Any idea if this player supposedly supports 40Mb why this file stutters badly please?

It plays fine for a few minutes then stutters and if you rewind a little bit it works, but again for only a few minutes.
The file is on a NAS and I am playing it through SMB network share. (For some reason if I try NFS the player just locks up and I have to hit the power button to restart the player)
This is trying my patience a bit now…it all started out so well!

I’ve not seen that before and it’s very worrying indeed.
The implication is that some straight Blu-ray Disc rips won’t play properly - have I got that right?
Not why I bought the player.

According to the result I have now, I’m not convinced it will ever work properly on a wireless connection.
To starwarsclark:
there is a known issue with this audio format !
Problem:
On a _ WD TV Live Hub Media Center _ or _ WD TV Live Streaming Media Player _, M2TS, MPG, MPEG, and TS video files containing Dolby, DTS, and PCM (above 2 channels) audio display a Not supported error message or play back without audio.
Cause:
There is an issue parsing the file header on these file types.
Solution:
This issue is specific to M2TS, MPG, MPEG, and TS files. You can resolve this issue by re-encoding the video to use a different container type. Western Digital is aware of this issue, and is working to resolve it in a future firmware release.
Gates: No, MKVs are not listed in those formats.
MKVs with DTS continue to work fine.
It’s only an issue with TS, M2TS, and MPG files.
Thanks for the clarification
If you’re making MKVs from the Blu-ray rips, you’re probably affected by this issue:

Just to confirm, I’m hard-wired.

I should say, so far I haven’t had a problem with stuttering on my SMP (though I have on my old WDTV live), but one or two films have simply frozen after 20 minutes or so, despite not being of a very high bitrate.
