Mapping \\MyBookLive\Public Network Drive to 3rd Computer Does Not Work?

I have a basic wireless home network.

The MyBookLive 2TB is hooked up by cable to the wireless router.

It works fine with the computer that set it up (I can view the drive letter with ascoiated folders).

I have another labtop that I successfully mapped the drive to (by manually going to newwork connections → tools ->map network drive → then entered drive letter and folder [\MyBookLive\Public](file://%5C%5CMyBookLive%5CPublic) .

Unfortuneately the third computer has an error when I attempt to discover (Via WD software) or manually map in the drive. The error reads “The network location cannot be reached”

It runs XP service Pack 3 but the labtop is a bit older…Does anyone know what could be the problem?

I forgot to mention that Yes I am on the same wireless network and able to access the MyBookLive login and configuration setup by placing the IP ( http://192.168.X.X) address into my internet browser (mozilla firefox).

I have turned off all known firewalls, and tried logging in with different name and password as suggested by WD support.

Still nothing…

I Have been to the following link and followed it’s instructions to no avail:

http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2676

This worked for someone but not me………

found a solution for the problem in Internet when I search with the error message “The specified network provider name is invalid”. The solution to this problem is to install “Client for Microsoft Network”.

Open “Networ and Sharing Center”

Click “View Satus” on the right side

Open “Properties”

Under Network click “Install”

Selet Client and click Add

Select Client for Microsoft Network and click OK

What to do nextt?

Windows Firewall setting is set to off (and allows UPnP)…hmmm what else lets try hardwire connection to wireless router…Still nothing even though there is internet access…Hmmm

Wow…for some odd reason it works now?   WTF? I may have enabled file and printer sharing (under wireless connection properties) or it may have been the firewall setting (exceptions being allow UPnP)??? Not sure what did it but, anyhow, it works now…good luck to others down the road…
