Mapping a drive on a remote windows server 2012

Hello,
I have one mycloud ex2 ultra installed remotely and i need create a map drive on windows server 2012 how i can do this?

Here are instructions - it’s for Desktop Windows, but Server 2012 is very similar to Windows 8 and should work the same way.

Not sure you can “map” a remote My Cloud EX2. WD removed the capability to remote map a My Cloud through the MyCloud.com web portal when they released the OS 3 firmware over a year ago. You may want to check the dedicated EX2 subforum since this subforum (My Cloud) is generally for the single bay/single drive My Cloud units.

Unofficially it may be possible (if the more expensive multi bay units like the EX2 Ultra don’t natively support remote mapping) to modify the My Cloud firmware to allow for remote mapping. Or one can use VPN to create a tunnel into the remote network to allow remote drive mapping through the VPN tunnel. This would require the setup of a VPN server on the remote network however.

I didn’t catch the word “remote” there. The instructions I provided are for devices inside your local network.

I did a quick Google search and it looks like there are numerous ways this could be done using third party services/software.

Of course, it used to be possible to remotely map a MyCloud. But WD decided to remove that advertised feature that had encouraged people to buy the product…

I only need backup some files from windows server to My cloud EX2.

The problem is that “my cloud” is installed remotely.

I thought I’d map a drive on the server and back up locally with the “cobian”

The windows server has vpn enabled
