Makeing Chapters for Long Files

I have converted Home VHS tapes to AVI files that are about 4 hours long.  I do have the ability to cut them but that takes quite a bit of time.  Is there away to put “chapters” in a single files so I can skip though parts to get to where I want to be with out fast forwarding for 2 hours of data?

It wold be nice is there was a  5 minute skip button much like me DVR I used to skip over commericals.

Yep, but not within an AVI container.   Only MKV and MP4 (m4v) containers support chapters.

With MKVs, you can use MKVMerge to add chapter markers.
