Mac USB connection problem?

I’m trying to get a WD My Passport USB external drive to show up when connected to the MBLD - but it doesn’t appear anywhere, including the MBLD dashboard. I’m using a Mac. Anyone have any ideas?

I’ve tried formatting the drive as either HFS+ or FAT, but it doesn’t work in either case. It’s fine when connected to the Mac directly.

I have two my book usb 1 tb drives connected to the 6tb my live pro both formatted to hfs+.  They both appear as shares and I can read and write to them with no issues.  My book live is a little slow in finding the usb drive, it is not instant like plugging into your computer.
