How do you connect to an AFP server from finder? Have you found a workaround for Time Machine?

I don’t know if this was tried but i know if you are saving some important information, it may not be safe but it works.
If you would go into permissions and change all folders you might have created to public instead of private you are able to
access all files and folders as a guest. This if you choose can be used until WD comes out with a firmwar up date. Just saying.
Where is the sharespace update WD? This is ridiculous!!
FYI, the 10.7.1 update seems to break the fix in page 1 of the forums. Repeating those instructions in 10.7.1 does not work either. Any idea when a workaround might be available or the actual long term fix? Thank you.
Correction, I gave bad info yesterday. The 10.7.1 update did NOT break the fix, I had a subtle, unrelated network problem that once corrected allowed the fix to function as it was previously.
However, I am still interested to learn about the long term solution vs. the workaround when available.
