Same here.
Do you have backups!! Backup Definition (techterms.com)
How are you determining you lost all your files? Using Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder? If you can access the My Cloud Dashboard, what does the capacity show? If you have SSH enabled within the My Cloud Dashboard one can (carefully) access the My Cloud at the root level using SSH and a program like WinSCP (https://winscp.net/eng/index.php) to see what drive capacity is and if the Shares are still on the drive.
Right.
The OS/5 upgrade process forces you to create all new users and whatnot. . .but the old shares will still be there. You “should” just be able assign new users to each share; and you are back in business. (This is akin to the good ol’ 40 second reset.)
@bennor is also correct - - - you can SSH into the device (if that’s enabled) and access using WinSCP.
Now… . .if this is one of those single bay mycloud gen2s. . . .be advised that if you enable cloud services, this will start an “indexing” process to facilitate the WD apps. This is not the most efficient process in the world. . .and the old myclouds can barely run it. Accessing the device while indexing is going on can be tricky. DO NOT REPEATEDLY PULL THE PLUG if this is happening.
But to @cat0w’s point. . . .do you have backups?
Yes, I did a full backup to one USB drive before upgrading. Now I am on the floor again. Everything is working. I did try to use MS File History for my future backup’s but skipped it and went back to WD Smartware. Mainly because it is much easier for me to handle, partly because I am familiar with it.
Windows Firewall was the problem. It did not accept OS 5 without actions from my side.
