Good morning, after the latest update I now need to use the IP address to access the file shares. However the DNS works for the Dashboard and all other devices on my network. I did a full restore and have the same issue. Is there a solution, or can I revert to the previous FW? Where do I download that?
Not sure if this is a true solution or a workaround, but after chatting with support we added the expected credential into Credential Manager manually ahead of time. Also not sure if the true issue is Windows or the MyCloud OS5 firmware update… or both. Why wouldn’t it just ask, like other devices?
After the MyCloud OS5 update, file sharing using the device name (e.g., \mycloud) no longer works, though the Dashboard and other devices still recognize it. File shares only work when accessed using the IP address (e.g., \192.168.1.x). Windows doesn’t prompt for login—it just fails. A workaround is to manually add the MyCloud login in Windows Credential Manager. This is likely due to changes in SMB handling and Windows security. WD doesn’t officially support firmware downgrades, and doing so may be risky. For now, use the IP address and Credential Manager, and check WD forums for updates.
i think most people put wd name in windows hosts file, that way can access by name not ip address.
As said above, put an entry into your HOSTS file (note, there’s no extension). File is located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. Open in Notepad (or other text editor) and enter a line that looks like this:
where ipaddress is the ip of your nas and is whatever you named it.
If you haven’t done so yet, set a “reservation” in your router to assign the same ipaddress to your nas so it doesn’t change unexpectedly. Consult your router documentation to reserve the ip.
