LED and Power Saving Problems From Update

EX2

2 X 3T RED’s

I too recieved the auto update at 3am. this morning. The EX2 was on in the morning with a solid red LED. The notification said I was 95% full, so I had to remove some files to free up 150 gigs before it turned back to blue. (What was strange, it didn’t matter to the EX3 before the update)

Soon I noticed that the EX2 refused to go to sleep after hours and hours of running. So I rebooted it a few times and it still continued to run ALL DAY! Soon I shut it dowm and disconnected the power, after restart, it ran for quite a while before the top main LED started breathing a slow on and off with the two lower LEDS remained ON solid. I can hear that the drives finally went to sleep, but the drive indicators remain on.

Before the update, the drives would quickly go to sleep when not in use and the light would go out too to show they were asleep. Only when both drives go to sleep and the LED’s would go out, the top LED would start breathing slowly.

And yes, the power savings settings are set the way they should be like before.

Hello there,

We have passed this along to support.

I am experiencing the same issue.  The good thing is the drives are sleeping even the two lower led light are solid.

We can turn or LED on or off by ourselves now

Thus far I like having that level of control.

LED-04.PNG

With the latest firmware (before the current firmware 2.10), this setting was available and switch off all LED’s.

In Settings option and Energy Saver, is located the option for switch off LED’s. (User’s Manual guide, page 105) ;).

Hi All,

I experience exactly the same issue, the 3 LEDS remain solid on ALL THE TIME

HAs anyone received a solving answer to this matter ?

Thanks in advance

Stéphane

Hello, welcome to the community.

We have passed this along to support.

Now that the firmware is available for the general public, I wonder if WD managed to solve the problem with the LEDS…?

I too am curious to why the Drive LED are solid blue when the LED option is enabled all of a sudden.

So…I check ed the User Manual for My Cloud Mirror (not Gen2) but the original one that I have.

http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705122.pdf

According to the UM (doesn’t look like it’s been updated for 2.10.302) the Drive LED should be SOLID BLUE when the drive is present and there’s no activity.

That’s not what the problem is here, yes the blue LED’S are on solid when the EX2 is running with no activity. The problem is that the lights stay on even after the EX2 powers down, this should not happen.

@init, in this case is the latest option of this table. “When the drive in stand by, no lit”.

Greetings.

I received an E-mail from a tech about my first post here, and it had NOTHING to do with what I wrote?? The tech must have read someone else’s problem then applied it to me because there was no reference to the power saving problem and it running for the whole day before powering down.

I’m a little annoyed because I’ve been down this road many times over the years with WD. I’ve been an owner of the WD Players since they were introduced, and there were many times updates threw my player into a tail spin. For every added option, some older option/s would be turned on their head. So far, my EX2 had run flawlessly after several updates since I bought it, now my EX2 had problems after an update.

Well, I wasn’t going to sit around and wait for a fix, I just downloaded the last update and did a quick re-install and shut off the auto update function. Guess what, everything works again!!!

I’ll wait for the next update and then monitor this site before I consider updating again.

_ I am sorry to hear that you experience inconveniences with our product. I will gladly assist you. _

_ Does the device work otherwise and just the LED is red or does it not work at all? _
_ Does it have IP address assigned? _
_ What router do you have? _
_ Have you tried resetting the device by pressing the reset button at the back for 5 seconds until the front LED light starts blinking? _

Can you access the Dashboard by typing http://wdmycloud in your browser? (or http://wdmycloud.local in case you use Mac OS)
_ If yes, can I please have logs from Dashboard? _
_ You need to click the question mark at top right, select Support and click Create and Save button. _
_ If the zip file with logs is bigger than 5MB, it will not get through to our system, so please unzip it, delete everything in \current_config\shares\ and zip it again. _

_ Do you have data on the device that you need to recover? Because Full Factory Restore might help too, but it deletes all data. _

This is the e-mail I received, it only really addressed the red LED problem, something I made clear that I fixed in my first post. I figured out that the new software demanded that I get it under 95% full, and after I deleted files, the light turned blue. After that, the most important problems weren’t addressed.

I received the same message. Here is the answer of tech support:

“Так быть не должно. Этот вопрос будет изучен нами, и мы постараемся найти решение. Вероятно, это связано с работой внутренних дисков (хотя SMART у дисков хороший) или интеграции прежнего массива в текущую версию ОС. Точнее будет понятно после изучения отчётов нашими специалистами из главного департамента, но заранее стоит быть готовым к тому, что с высокой долей вероятности, подобную неполадку можно будет исправить только пересозданием RAID (с отчисткой дисков).”

I will translate it to you.

“It should not be so. This issue will be studied by us, and we will try to find a solution. This problem is probably associated with the work of the hard drives (although the drives SMART state is good) or the integration of the old data storage array in the current version of the OS. It will be clear after studying the reports by our specialists from the main department, but you should be ready for the fact that with high probability, such problem can be solved only by creating a new RAID (followed with wiping out all the data).”

So they are only tech support, and they can’t give more details at this moment without consultation with the developers.

Hello there,

With the latest firmware update to the My Cloud drive we have enhanced the reporting of error codes. LED behavior has changed to pulse blue when EX2 goes on standby mode (Sleep mode) and also to show solid red LED when there is attention required (such as Ethernet cable not connected). We are in the process of creating a Knowledge Base Article to address this change and I will add it to this post as soon as it goes live. Sorry for any confusion.

Hey Folks,

Here are a couple of Knowledgebase Articles that may help explain the led light functions.

The front LED on a My Cloud Mirror or My Cloud EX2 displays solid red

The front LED on a My Cloud Mirror or My Cloud EX2 remains solid blue

Im aware that there is another status color which is amber or say yellow. For low disk space yellow light can be set to drive level to indicate low space. It should not showing red which is known as critical error. This is now set for system failours as i can see wd support document which is good. Also dont understand why you people lit drive led all time even when it sleeps. Revert back the changes and make it as eariler.

Please vote here, if you want to restore the LEDs behaviour to the previous version on My Cloud EX2
