Laptop does not detect the WD Passport external drive

Hi,

I have the WD Passport ( WDXMSB1600TN) with 160GB capacity which was bought some 10 years ago. Now when I connect my drive to laptop, the light on the drive glows up but my laptop is not able to detect the drive and as a result, I am not being able to copy the files from my drive onto the laptop.

please let me know the fix for the same.

try it like this,

  1. disconnect the power from the harddrive. let it sit for a while to cool down the device.
  2. try to connect again when it is in the evening as the temperature is not hot.
  3. it will shows up., if not, then try it another time.

it is the heating problem for the WD drive.
