Keeps failing in opening WD drive utilities in Mac

I’m running a Mac OS X(Version 10.6.8) and I purchased the My passport ultra and it has been causing problems as below.

I successfully installed the WD drive utilities, however the software crashed with pop-up message ‘Failed to search for software updates, server could not understand the request’ upon opening the program.

Tried several times with re-installation, restarting the computer etc.
I still can not figure out what causes the problem :frowning:
