Jerky Video

I have a new WDTVHD Media Player V2 and have attempted to play .dvr-ms files converted from .wtv files created on a Windows 7 Media Center off the air.  I converted the files using todvrms.exe.  I am playing the file back from a 2.5 inch HD with a USB “y” cable.  I am using a LG 37 inch 720p HD TV.

My problem is I get jerky video whenever the scenes are panned side to side on a building or vertically on a bulding.  Rather than a smooth picture, it seems to jump from frame to frame in these scenes.  There is no problem following people or animals in motion.  The sound is fine.  I have played this file on two different computers and their large monitors with no problems in these building scenes.

Any ideals on settings for the Media Player or TV?  Also any other file formats that might be better?

Thanks,

Planorez

What you’re describing sounds a lot like “Judder,” which is a video artifact that can occur when video at one frame rate is played on a display using a different framerate…  Frames have to be added or deleted to fill in the blanks.

Post the TEXT output of MediaInfo (mediainfo.sourceforge.net) for one of the files you’re playing and we’ll take a look.

Also, please describe how you’re hooked up to your TV.

Thanks Tony.  Judder is a new term to me.  It is strange because it only seems to show up when the sceene is panning a building or several buildings.  I guess in detail like that the synch of the picture is critical.

I connect to my HD TV from the WDHDTV Media Player using a HDMI cable.

Here is the mediainfo text file of the file I’m playing:

Ahhh!   I see you’re a Plano Person.  :)

Wasn’t paying attention to your Username; but then I saw KERA and put the two together.  I live just in a town just east of you.

So, that’s an interlaced TV program.   I don’t have a lot of history with those, so I’m not sure what to expect, but I’d be surprised to see Judder in 29.97 fps content, unless the SOURCE has it.   Judder is MUCH more common in 24fps material being displayed at 30 or 60Hz refresh.

How do these streams look when you play them on your PC?

What HDMI mode are you using on your WD?
