Issue with WD PR4100 NAS: Drive Failure and Missing RAID Configuration after drive replacement, Unable to Access Data -- OS3

I am facing a serious issue.

I have a WD PR4100 NAS with OS3 version 2.x and a capacity of 4 x 6TB. Four days ago, Drive 3 suddenly showed as “Drive Failed,” and the light on Drive 3 turned red. At that point, I was unable to access any data stored on the NAS.

I then purchased an identical hard drive to replace Drive 3. However, after replacing it, the dashboard no longer displayed the hard drive capacity. Instead, it only showed the message “No Configured Volumes.” When I checked the RAID profile, it also indicated “No Configured Volumes.”

I can still log in to the dashboard, but I cannot access SSH or retrieve any files in any way. I believe this issue may be related to the RAID configuration or a missing profile.

Could anyone assist me in fixing this issue or helping me back up the existing data?

Thank you.

It looks like your WD PR4100 NAS has lost its RAID configuration after the drive replacement. The system showing “No Configured Volumes” suggests the RAID profile is missing or not recognized, so avoid initializing or formatting the drives to prevent data loss.

Start by reseating all the drives and rebooting the NAS to check if the RAID volume reappears. If that doesn’t help, you can try accessing the NAS via SSH, running commands like mdadm --detail --scan to check if the RAID array is still intact.

If SSH is inaccessible, you can connect the drives to a Linux system. Use commands like mdadm --assemble --scan to see if the RAID can be assembled and then mount it for data access.

If none of this works, consider using data recovery software like R-Studio, Stellar, or UFS Explorer. If you’re still stuck, professional RAID data recovery might be the next step.
