Is there any way to root/jailbreak etc the MyCloud

I have pretty much given up on getting the WD MyCloud to work, and I’ll probably cannibalise the drive to put in someone else.

But before I do that, is there any way to root it and install a complete new system? I mean, there’s a linux system in there and an ARM chip or whatever. Any reason we shouldn’t install a whole new OS and use it as a general purpose computer?

There is already linux system and root access is given via ssh. So, the problem is just to find proper linux distributive, which corresponds to system’s architecture and has drivers for all the hardware. Really you may check Gentoo, for x86 and amd64 architectures they have an instructions how to build the system from scratch and naked ssh access.

For me it was enough to downgrade to previous firmware to solve almost all problems.
