Is there ANY new WD External that can be used as a Internal when it breaks? I want to know BEFORE I buy if there is any drive that you can take appart (at your own risk) and connect to your computer?
Possibly the powered Elements. Drives that come with Smartware are hardware encrypted by a circuit board making data recovery extremely difficult. I think the USB powered drives all use a proprietary connector.
