That’s the question - I have located the target images on the EX4 and was curious if it were possible to mount one and access it as a filesystem to transfer directly from a USB device.

The information on the manual shows that the target needs to be on the storage server so not certain if the USB expansion will work.

Yes, it wouldn’t work, since the USB drive will be attached to the EX4 directly. I don’t know how he can “mount” the target image anyway, without having an initiator
