Is it me or the hdd?

I’ve just bought a WD10EARS 1 TB HDD. According to the label i don’t need to do anything to it as i’m using Windows 7.

The problem i have is that it is recognised by ‘Device Manager’ and also ‘Hard Disc Sentinal’, but according to ‘My Computer’ it doesn’t exist. I have Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit, AMD Phenom 2 X4 Quad core 3000MHz, 945 processor, 4 GB of Ram. An ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics card with 1GB of ram.

I want to use the WD HDD as additional space for storing video, music, photos etc. The OS is on another HDD.

Do i need to do something to this drive or is it dead?

I know a bit about computers but not a lot…

It seems to me that it needs to be formatted but i have no idea how to do it. If  believe the label, it should work straight from the bag.

Happy New Year!

Mine will start when i get this drive working…

Please ignore this question.

If you too have the same problem, see DarkMatter’s post entitled

It worked for me!!

mormaly every internal HDD comes with no format whatsoever

you need to initialize the hdd

in the run box put diskmgmt.msc

and it should appear the disk management tool

after that you should see the hard drive as raw, click in disk management and format it in mbr
