Installing software after data storage?

I do like WD My Book 3TB Essential- when I got it , I moved about 500gb of data over to it for storage.

Now, I would like to install the software for backups but will it remove my current data or not?

Hi

You can install WD Smartware and run a backup that will not delete the data you just moved on the drive.-

Warning do not store important data on just one HD no matter who makes it. These forums are full of people who did that and then had some problem. Make sure you have at least 2 copies of important data.
