Hi,

I have some questions about installing it.

ok i want to buy it to play movies on a tv 2 rooms away.

my internet comes via a switch then a 30m cable to a router then to my pc.

will it work if i take a cable from my switch to the media player or is my network only accesable through my router?

If I understand coreclty - you have switch-router-pc.

A home-switch rarely can do routing and I supose your router is connecting you to the internet and your switch is connected into a built-in switch from the router. If you connect WD into the built-in switch your setup would be like: wd->2nd swich->built-in switch->pc. If so, there will be no problems but, yes, you will “see” wd through the build-in switch from the router.
