Install failed (error code 103)

I have a 1tb my passport.USB cable. In the past I had copied some DVD’s to it. I have tried to load the software to it but get the “install failed”. Looking it up, error code 103. I am having registry problem and wanted to back up my data. Does anyone have any ideas?
