Incomplete Backup?

Hi,

I just got a new 2TB passport and patiently backed up what I thought was the entire contents of my computer (473GB). I always as a habit, immediately backup again upon completion of a backup. Obviously this is usually instant and contains no changes. However, I was shocked to see, first 4GB, then on another immediate backup 11GB of additional files that had seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

Either the WD passport software is flawed, and did not do a complete backup, or…no I can’t think of another reason.

Help! How can I trust the backup of this brand new unit if it omits large chunks of files from a backup, meaning I don’t really know if my computer has been backed up?

Do I have a defective unit?

Hello and welcome to the WD Community.

Please note that additional files are files that were copied or backed up to the drive without using the WD Smartware.

If you moved or copied some files manually to the drive, they will show as additional files.
