I received a 500gig external passport harddrive, p/n wdbaaa5000abk-00 and after i formatted it it said there was 512 tb (no thats not a misprint, it has 512 terabytes), I can’t put anything on the drive even though it has 1 volume that says it is 2048.00 GB RAW and another volume that is 522239.44 GB unallocated

This hard drive does not sound healthy. A larger-than-actual size is usually a sign of something wrong with the unit’s platters. Try running a health test using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows for confirmation.

If the drive fails the test it should be replaced. If it passes try writing zeros to your unit so you can initialize and format it from scratch.

Well unfortunately it failed, I kinda liked the idea of having an external hard drive with that much room. Thanks for the input
