I really hate not being able to change the permission of the default Public share

Probably you already guess what this message is all about. No Shaiza! Obviously WD developers does not use this NAS personally at their homes. If they do, they would already have addressed this issue LONG LONG LONG TIME AGO. Very stupid that they still keep doing it on the new NAS and it seem no plan or what so ever addressing this issue.

There are so many reasons why they should give users the ability to change the permission on any share. But to be moderate here are my 2 reasons:

  1. If you use WD Photos. it only upload the pictures or videos on the default Public share. There is no option to which share to upload the files. Uploading only to the default Public share would be acceptable only if I can protect my files in that share. Those files are very important to me and looks like WD dont give a **bleep** about it. Please do not tell how I use my NAS. Users should have the power. You should empower users on how they like.

If you have the My Book Live or the My Book Live Duo the WD photos only shows the pictures on this Public share. But I have a friend bought the new My Cloud and it actually shows the pictures from any shares but upload still on Public share. Please Please for crying out loud please tell me to transfer the pictures somewhere else later. That is just plainly stupid implementation.

If the developer really uses this NAS they would really consider changing the permission on this share.

  1. Everybody can just dump any files in that share. Who knows somebody will write a script to keep writing on that. That would far stretch but very possible. I am just exageratting but still want to pull my hairs off.

Why cant you guys let US use the way we want? If you dont want us to delete the Public share then fine but let us change the permission at least.

WD takes into consideration customer ideas like this one.

There’s a forum for ideas that you can visit and submit yours if you’ll like.

Make sure to check before since the idea might already be there, in which case you only need to vote for it.
