Hi, anyone who can help me? I dropped my external HD last night and when I tried to connect it to the computer it’s not popping the usual folder to open my files. The computer can detect the device but i cannot open my files. Anyone who knows how to troubleshoot so that I can recover my important files saved in the external HD?

I’d recommend a professional data recovery service.
If you dropped your drive and files on it are in fact important, then you should NOT use any software. That may end badly.
Dropped drive means possible collision of heads with platters → that usually leads to head damage → sever head damage may lead to extended platter damage if drive keeps on spinning → platter damage means usually unrecoverable data… Recovery software would be the cheapest bet, but not the safest. I’d contact professionals for help.

Totally agree here. A professional recovery service is what is needed in this case. Do It Yourself software and the classic (but horribly misguided) freezer trick isn’t going to fix anything. There is most likely internal mechanical damage or parts knocked out of tolerance. And things like this only get worse the more the drive is powered on.
In the off chance that an electrical connection has simply come loose, an honest recovery company will charge you a minimum fee and consider it a goodwill gesture.

Dropped hard drive is most likely mechanical problem with read/write heads caused by and impact/ collision with platters. There is no software to work with this kind of thing. Running any type of recovery software can be destructive for the drive.
If you care about your data I would suggest sending it out for recovery of finding a reputable data recovery company locally.
