My entire life I’ve used this WD MyCloud to store pictures of my childhood. I’ve always been able to access these photos by simply connecting my laptop to the MyCloud via an Ethernet cable directly. I would open the MyCloud by Goin on the Finder app Finder>Network>WDMyCloud>Public and voila! All my old pictures. But now when I go Finder>Network>WDMyCloud and double click MyCloud it says “Connecting…” at the top and doesn’t open anything.
One time I got a pop up that said:
There was a problem connecting to the server “WDMyCloud”.
The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
I’m attaching an image of which WDMyCloud device I own.
I’ve been using this for over 10 years and now it’s failing on me. I have 1000s of old photos on here! Please help me recover these!!!
Then when I double click “WDMyCloud” to open the cloud it takes me to this empty screen and then will say Connection failed. When I click “Connect As..” it does nothing. Before when I double clicked “WDMyCloud” it would have my old folders to access my photos, “Public”, “TimeMachine Backup”, etc.
I don’t use iOS/Mac devices. A quick AI search indicates the following on how to find the IP address of devices connected on the local network (should find the My Cloud).
To find the IP address of a device on your local network using a Mac, open the Terminal and use the command arp -a to display a list of devices and their IP addresses connected to your network. This will show you the IP addresses along with their corresponding MAC addresses.
Please note that while it is possible, normally one does not directly connect the My Cloud to a computer. Instead one would connect the My Cloud to the local network router or gateway allowing all network clients to have access to the My Cloud.
