I can only access files via media server

ok after looking at the manual and following it to a T my computer will not let my media player see any of the files in the folders if I connect via the network share.

but however if I use the media sever option I can access everything on my computer. pictures, videos, music etc.

I have windows 7 ultimate 64bit.  Live TV player with the latest firmware.

now this really isn’t a problem since I can at least access what I want, it’s just odd to me the network share doesn’t work period.  and the manual says the media server stuff isn’t for accessing the computer files but it works perfectly.

I just thought I’d put this out there for anyone else trying and failing to go the network route.

well you’re one step ahead of me.  I can’t even get “play from media server” to work.

same configuration (plus a xp pc), same issue

the other way I can figure out how to get it to work is by simply copy and paste all my files I want to share into the public folders.

I have no idea why it doesn’t work like the instructions say but it simply doesn’t.  it must be a setting in windows 7 that western digital doesn’t know about.
