How to transfer all the data from existing my cloud home to the new replacement my cloud home

My existing mycloud home is producing constant noise. I would like to replace a new one. How do I transfer all the data from the existing to the new my cloud home and retain the same account ?

  1. First of all, are you sure you want to get another My Cloud Home (MCH) as the model is approaching its useful End of Life after being introduced 7 years ago.
  2. Unfortunately there is no app to transfer from the MCH to another MCH such as the Network Import from MC OS3/OS5 to the MCH.

3. You would likely have to do it with USB drive copy manually by plugging one of sufficient capacity into the USB port of the MCH. This is the way (most likely the fastest and most economical and also the most practical given the state of the aging MCH you described).
4. It is also possible to sync from one MCH to another MCH using the Gb ethernet SMB network but you will have to go through activating another MCH and that could take a while given the state of updating the firmware in multiple stages.

To transfer data to your new My Cloud Home while keeping the same account, start by backing up your files. You can either download them using the My Cloud web app or transfer them over the network using robocopy (Windows) or rsync (Mac/Linux) if both devices are connected.
Next, set up the new My Cloud Home, plug it in, and sign in with the same WD account as the old device. Once it’s ready, transfer your backed-up files and verify that everything is intact.
After confirming the transfer, reset the old My Cloud Home if you no longer need it. Let me know if you need help with any step.

Since my home cloud technology is old , what is your recommendation to buy ?

This is probably not a good forum or thread to be recommending NAS because nobody here knows what your needs are, but consider the following:

  1. You should backup your MCH now before it degrades further. A large USB hard disk drive is always useful to have.
  2. You should consider your needs and whether you need a NAS at all. For example, do you need a media server to play your own media or do you just use a NAS for generally storage.
  3. Could you get by with DAS (direct access storage) such as a USB hdd or online cloud storage?
  4. But do consider having multiple forms of storage that are secure and easily restorable if disaster strikes.
  5. Do you want to maintain your own hardware?
