How to stream music from remotely connected WD My Cloud to OS X computer?

I am trying to listen to music stored on my WD My Cloud remotely from my work place. I can mount the drive (I am on OS X at work) no problems either by using the wd2go.com method (tho the running java in unsafe mode is a pain) or connect to the drive via FTP which I have enabled and have up and running.

When I try to open mp3 files into a media player on OS X the program hangs and doesn’t repond, when playing just one file at a time it seems ok (a little slow to start playing etc) I have checked that the media players (itunes or vlc) are not trying to copy the media locally.

Interestingly playing mp3s remotely on my iphone using either the wd my cloud iphone app or filebrowser (ftp) app works fine, with the built in players moving to the next song once finished playing the previous.

Any ideas or tips on how to steam music remotely from the WD My Cloud NAS?

If ftp is up and running as you said try to play the files remotely using XBMC.

In XBMC open files from shares using FTP as source.

You can use XBMC in windowed mode to still do some work!

Thanks I will look into XBMC

Anyone know of any other options?
