How to start using a new HDD in a computer after preparing it conveniently

I just bought a 4TB internal blue HDD
What are the steps to format and or initialize in order to start using it.
DO i need to prepare it for GPT? How do i do that?
Additionally i have the drive in an external dock connected to my PC laptop.
