How to prevent files from overwritten by users

Hi Guys, I’m having file sharing issues with my WD EX2. When both users open the same file at the same time, it can be overwritten by them. I supposed the system will lock the file and only allow read access for other users opening the same file at the same time. Is there anyway to prevent the file from being overwritten? Thanks

I have not experienced this, first time I see something like this, what type of file are you experiencing this with? Also would like to know if this is locally or remotely.

Hi, i was trying to modify an excel file on windows 10 while the other user open and modify the file on macbook. Both of us can open and modify the same file at the same time.
