How to permanently change itunes ID3 tags of files stored on a My Cloud

I just bought a 3TB My Cloud with the intention of using it as a server to the MacBook Pros/iPhones/Apple TVs in my household.  I have copied my music collection to a public share folder of the My Cloud and enabled the “iTunes server” function.  This seems to work quite well and I can access the music via “shared libraries” in iTunes on both my and girlfriend’s macbook pros.  The problem is that the library as it shows up now in iTunes is super unorganised.  I can edit the tags in iTunes but this only lasts temporarily, as soon I have to reload the library again (for example after closing the MacBook Pro) everything reverts back to how it was before.

Is there a way to change the ID3 tags on the My Cloud without using a separate ID3 tag editing program?  I have spoken iTunes support who said I should ask WD.

If a tag editing program is necessary, which is the easiest free program to use?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

I’m partial to MP3tag.  But there’s lots of room for opinion…
