WD 20EARS Green Drive. Boot Sector and OS Partition Corrupted. Showed up as RAW in Disk Management. TestDisk had tons of Read Errors. But Smart and Western Digital Quick Test pass. Did Full Format on Drive.
Will this keep bad sectors marked as bad? Western Digital Quick Test Passes still. Running Long read test now. Can I trust this drive? How do I ensure bad sectors don’t get reused.
AFAICT, a WD drive needs to reallocate about 500 bad sectors before it fails SMART. You should examine the raw values of the reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sector attributes. You could use tools such as HD Sentinel or HDDScan to do this.
Thanks for your help. The Extended Test Did eventually fail.
