How to format passport to MBR on Mac

I have a lovely blue passport WD of 3Tb - I want to use it to play videos/etc on my Samsung smart tv. However, it is in guild format that my tv doesn’t read. I can’t seem to format into place that this tv would read. in disk utility, the first option of wd my passport fails to erase, when I click the drop down passport I can erase it but its still in this guild format
