How to do Better, Faster NAS Searches

Thanks, that link did it. I was able to “Manually Add” it.
So its installed and tied to my NAS,but does not seem to be Indexing
it is only showing me 2 files
and searches for Folders that I know are there, show 0 results??

allow it some time to work on the indexing. if you have 1tb + files it will take some 30 minutes to 1hr.

So allow the server to do the indexing.

There is app in Itunes or Google play. Check back after some time.

There is faq which will tell you how to check or confirm once the indexing done.

Also while configuring the setup of watch directory have you selected all the folder in the NAS which you are planning to use it .

For this share the account you created with every user’s . I believe that may not be limited for logging in at the same time.

but more than 2-3 login might logout other’s. It should not be problem for user’s in local network which is your prime usage.

Ive yet to be able to do 1 simple search with this Quikfind. This kind of software is junk if its this hard to figure out. I may not be smart but im no dummy.
I am not interested in trying anymore. I will look for another solution…I am not a NAS person…more of a user then a geek…
I have spent (lost) HOURS messing with this [Deleted]!!

I am going to look at 2 others that Index
Everything
“Everything” is search engine that locates files and folders by filename instantly for Windows.
Unlike Windows search “Everything” initially displays every file and folder on your computer (hence the name “Everything”).

Index your Files
Index Your Files is an alternative way for you to Index and Search through all your files or folders on Local or Networked Drives.

i see . you need to tell exactly what are you looking. If not provide a audio recording what you tried and what not is working

I will try to help you unless you be specific.

its not rocket science and you dont need to be geek to use this, As its just a UI of software in NAS.

Not easy initially but its figurable software yet some broken feature’s of search or setup functionality yet.

can you show everyone how to search with WD My Cloud app from outside network

I have been struggling with the same problem on my WD MyCloud 3Tb drive. Searches on my NAS for a single file name via windows explorer might take 10 minutes - that’s for a SINGLE file. I’ve called WD tech support numerous times and have steadily maintained that there must be a way, but even their senior tech support specialists are insistent that that quick indexed searches of their NAS drives are impossible. Well, that AIN’T TRUE… so read on.

Luckily I didn’t believe them, and I continued digging until I found something that worked. It’s an elegant little shareware app called “Everything Search” by Void Tools and and it was right under my nose for I’ve been using this Windows app for several years.

Briefly here’s how to get your NAS drive indexed by Everything Search so you can have lighting quick searches from your Windows machine.

  1. Download and install Everything Search at
    Downloads - voidtools
  2. Make your NAS is mapped to a drive so it’s accessible via Windows Explorer
  3. go to this page at Voidtools website Folder Indexing - voidtools
  4. on the above page, navigate to the heading
" How do I add a mapped network drive to the Everything index?"
    and follow the instructions.
  5. It took Everything Search about 5 minutes to index roughly 185,000 files - roughly 1.5Tb. From there on, I can easily and instantly search my WD NAS drive.
  6. Just so that Everything isn’t constantly re-indexing your NAS, set it to index once per day. You can also trigger a redo of the indexing at any time.

hope this helps you all!

PS _ I am not a tech support person, and cannot field your questions on using Everything Search. I am just a photographer with hundreds of thousand of photos who found a solution to a supposedly “impossible” problem.

the Everything search program works great.
The downside is that “Everything” does NOT search for TAGS or comments and so on.
Anyone have another free solution?
