How safe is disabling Drive Sleep?

I use my WD My Cloud Mirror (Gen 2) as a Plex storage drive. Lately, I have had issues connecting from my various devices, where I will be unable to see my WD MyCloud as a server when I log into Plex.

I resolved it today by rebooting, but someone in the Plex forums suggested disabling the Drive Sleep function.

How safe and healthy is it for the drives if I were to turn that function off?

Hello,

This should not cause any issues. you can find how to turn it off on page # 80 of the user’s manual.

Drive health wouldn’t be affected by being continuously awake? I have my setup mirrored, but I was just cautious about burning out changing that setting. Would the drive idle or something when not in direct use? Or is that essentially what Drive Sleep does?
