How many hours does a hard drive last?

I would like to know if there is any documentation of Western Digital where they specify the hours of duration of the hard drives.

Do the 2.5 "units last the same?

Well, doubt you will find any document that tells the life span of any drive by any company, but most drives last longer than their warranties.

Better yet, I can give you a real world example. This HP Win 7 laptop was first turned on Jan.12, 2010; Today is Mar. 5, 2018 (do the math) the 2.5 inch drive inside was made by Hitachi (HGST). A few years ago WD bought HGST, and I believe HGST makes all the WD small drives. This laptop has been running all day for around 15 hours a day, every day, all this time.

WD, at least for some of their drives, does publish MTBF (Mean-Time Between Failure) figures on their datasheets.
