Used mypassport external drive on windows 7 laptop to backup hard drive. Laptop died. Now have new laptop with Windows 8. How to I retrieve files from mypassport and save to new laptop?

If you used WD Smartware to create the backup you can use the same software to retrieve the backup. Also you can go directly to the backup folder on the root of the drive (called “WDSmartware.swstor”) and copy and paste the files to the new computer.
