How do you remove the WD Smartware virtual CD drive from your system?

I think all you’ve done is hide it. I never disabled mine with the utility I just went into device manager and disabled the virtual CD there and accomplished the same thing.

You could well be correct.  In any case, solves a whole lot of nagging problems for everyone.  A check of the actual disk shows nothing on that drive but your own partition and files.  That’s good enough for me. I think once activated, the Virtual CD takes over a portion of the drive and claims it for itself.  Who knows.  Why can’t life be simpler?  Cheers.

adamgosp,

Could you check if enabling the VCD after formatting the drive, there are any files on the disk? Or it’s empty?

If the VCD is empty, then I think your theory is correct, and the firmware claims part of the disk as the VCD.

There have been a bunch of these post. All have only hid the drive in reality. If it was truly wiped out the 500-600 meg space would have been reclaimed.
