How do you copy files from an iMac to a 5ooGb WD external disk

Each time I drag and drop files onto a new 5ooGb WD external drive the message “My Passport” cannot be modified appears? Any ideas please?

If the drive is formatted NTFS for Windows it will be read only on a Mac. You either need to reformat it For a Mac or use some software if you wish to use the drive on Mac and Windows both. FAT32 will work on both but the largest file size is 4 gig.
