How do I get WD to replace my WD external drive which has non-deletable WD Smartware built-in, with a clean drive?

It seems there is no way to remove this “Smartware” that WD has preinstalled on the drive. I have done a few hours searching around the net to find a way to delete it, and contacted WD tech support, and cannot find a way.

I don’t trust “smartware”, I don’t like it, and it takes up significant storage space which I paid for.

I want a clean drive.

I am in Australia.

Hello 11914,

What’s the model number for the drive that you have? Depending on the drive, you should be able to disable the WD Smartware software and also is optional for you to use the software.

Not sure if the Replacement team will be able to do that.

There is also a P/N and an S/N

but I am not sure I want to list the serial number publicly. Not sure what P/N is.
