how do i find out how fast my file transfers are please.

i have just upgraded my router to a 1gigabit LAN, which should be the same as my Lap Tops wired LAN socket, please how can i find out how fast my file transfers are.

I could then find out how much speed i actually sacrifice by going wireless !!!

then i may well connect up my old router and see what the difference is, IF ANY !!!
