How can I ensure that the hard drive I am purchasing is not stolen?

I have a drive that I purchased from the most reputable online computer hardware retailer and am unable to get it RMA’d because Western Digital is saying that it’s stolen and the warranty is void. I do not want to repeat this and lost my money again, so what is the best way to make sure the drive that I am about to purchase is legit?

Not accepting the authorised reseller thing because that has faults, but buying directly from WD solves my issue. Thanks.
