I’ve purchased some HUS724040ALS640 drives from a vendor as ‘Refurbs’ that they provided a warranty on. I’ve had issues with a few of them where in the process of rebuilding the array, my Promise SAN kicked the drives out due to media errors found. The vendor promptly replaced them, but what I’d like to do, if possible, is when I get one of these drives, before I try adding it into an array, I’d like to be able to run a full media scan/test on the drive to see if there are any issues with the drive or its media that might cause it to fail a rebuild.
Is there still some kind of diagnostics that can boot off a CD or USB that will work with the Ultrastar drives? The only thing I was able to find was the Windows based one.
