Help with degraded RAID volume recovery

I have an EX2100 that has reported it has a degraded raid volume. I have attempted the following:

  • New drive with auto rebuild → still reports degraded
  • New drive with manual rebuild → still reports degraded

So my next attempt was to backup the files from the NAS to a Hard Drive and then attempt to rebuild the NAS and move the files back. My approach was to use FTP as it would have given me better auditing and recovery. However, everything was going fine for a while until I started getting 553 errors attempting to CWD through paths:

Command: CWD /Public/ProfileBackup/
Response: 553 User not allow

At first I was using a custom user, but I attempted with ADMIN and received the same results. All my shares are set to FTP allowed with anonymous read only just to ensure I can access them.

If you have recommendations on how to recover a degraded RAID volume or how to resolve my 553 error please share because I would really like to get my system back up and running in a stable state, even if it means buying a new NAS…but I would have to be able to get my files off regardless.
